Carers and Consumers Priority Area

The broad aims of this priority area are to:

  1. Enhance the capacity of consumer and carer representatives to advocate on behalf of the CALD sector nationally
  2. Build a strongr mental health consumer and carer advocacy sector that contributes to long term, cohesive vision for mental health care for people from CALD backgrounds throughout Australia.
  3. Intergrate and build on MMHA's infrastructure and support natiaonal mental health consumer and carer representation.

Some of the activities for this priority will include:

  1. Providing targeted training to CALD consumers and carers to deliver a stronger and more articulate voice in mental health for the CALD community
  2. Supporting and developing a sustainable, trained, well-networked and knowledeable pool of national CALD consumer representatives
  3. Arranging opportunities for carer and consumer representatives to share information, debrief and where relevant, mentor other representatives
  4. Providing up to date resources to educate consumer and carer representatives about specific functions ie. confidentiality, government charters and advocacy skills
  5. Enhancing, promoting and progressing genuine national carer and consumer partnerships in the community
  6. Enabling CALD consumers and carers to identify key national projects and areas of need in the CALD population.
