Community Capacity Building

The aims of this priority area are to:

Coordinate MMHA's national community capacity building programs and encourage and assist mainstream mental health sector involvement in the development of national multicultural mental health policy aiming to reduce stigma associated with a mental disorder for people from CALD background.

Some of the activities for this priority area include:

Providing leadership and coordination of MMHA's national community capacity building programs, including the implementation and evaluation of the MMHA Community Capacity Building and Stigma Reduction Project and oversee the Train the Trainer Program.

  1. Working with community services, consumers and carers to identify CALD community needs and jointly formulate strategies to address those issues.
  2. Increasing the awareness of self help programs for people living in CALD communities throughout Australia
  3. Developing models and processes for strengthening sustainable and effective engagement of the wider community with MMHA.
  4. Building a stronger understanding of the capacity building needs of the non-government sector.
  5. Encouraging and assisting mental health sector involvement in the development of national mental health policy aiming to reduce stigma associated with a mental disorder for people from CALD backgrounds.
