Transcribe 09: Young Writers Competition 2009

"Like a fish out of water"

Calling all young people (12 -19yrs)!

We are now searching for undiscovered creative writers across NSW to share their thoughts, feelings and experiences about issues that affect young people.

Transcribe 09: Like a Fish Out of Water – 2009 Young Writer’s Competition is an initiative of TMHC, in conjunction with the Schizophrenia Fellowship (NSW) and Black Dog Institute.

The competition provides young people with the opportunity to express themselves creatively about issues that directly impact on their lives in multicultural Australia. Entrants are encouraged to write about one of two topics;

  • Topic 1: a young person (could be themselves) coping with mental health issues either personally, in their family or with their friends or
  • Topic 2: about the experiences of a young person from a culturally and linguistically diverse community that is or was living in difficult times, either in Australia or overseas.

The theme of this year’s competition is “Like a fish out of water”.

The competition is open to all young people, between the ages of 12 and 19 across New South Wales. The closing date for the 7th Young Writers’ Competition is the end of Term 2, 10 July 2009.

The prize-winners will be presented with their awards during Mental Health Week, October 2009.   The school with the maximum number of entries will be awarded with a $500 gift voucher.
