Search the whole Clearinghouse or choose
a single database
Searching from the home
page will search all the databases in the Clearinghouse.
You can search a single database by choosing that database
from the left hand navigation menu: Resources,
Services,
Research
& Projects, Education
& Training or Events
Your results will always be displayed in a brief format.
Click on any title in the list to see the full details.
Basic Search or Guided Search?
The home page for each database has a basic keyword search
box. You can enter one or more words, or a whole phrase. Only
results containing all your words will be retrieved. If you
don't know what words to search for, we suggest you try the
Guided Search.
Guided Search
Each database also has a Guided Search option to help you
refine your search. There are browse buttons which allow you
to choose from a list of options to search.
For example, if you are searching for a resource, you can
specify the language, subject, material type, and organisation
that produced the resource.
You can choose one or more of these options to help refine
your search results.
Browse topics
Using a browse topic is a quick and easy way to find everything
the Clearinghouse contains on a particular topic.
A list of browse topics is listed on the right hand side
of every search page in the Clearinghouse.
Click on a browse topic such as 'women's health', and you
will see a list of sub-headings such as 'pregnancy', 'domestic
violence', or 'parenting'. Click on any of these topics and
you will automatically retrieve everything the Clearinghouse
contains on that topic.
I found too many records
Try adding more keywords to make your search more specific,
or go to Guided Search for search suggestions.
I didn't find any records
Check the spelling of the words you have entered. Try using
fewer keywords, or go to Guided Search and browse the entries
in the database.
Using Boolean search language
The Clearinghouse also supports Boolean logic, proximity searching,
truncation, term and word indexing and exact phrase searching
for those who prefer it. You will need to use the correct
query syntax - see here for details.
