LAUNCH OF THE DHI CLEARINGHOUSE
The DHI Clearinghouse was officially launched by the Hon. Morris Iemma, NSW Minister for Health, on 25 July 2005 as part of Multicultural Health Week celebrations. The event, held at the Carlton Hotel in Parramatta, was attended by over 200 guests who enjoyed food, entertainment by musical act Heval, and a display of artworks provided by the Health and Arts Research Centre. A range of statewide and allied health services organised display stands to provide information on multicultural health services in NSW. To see pictures from the launch, go to http://www.dhi.gov.au/clearinghouse/Launch.htm

WHAT’S NEW…
Recently there has been a significant increase in the number of refugees from Africa settling in Australia. The DHI Clearinghouse has developed a feature page that presents a range of information about African communities settling in Australia, and that aims to assist service providers and people from African communities to access culturally appropriate health services and information. For further information, go to http://www.dhi.gov.au/clearinghouse/African.htm

DHI HAPPENINGS
Mental health promotion program at TMHC
The Transcultural Mental Health Centre has recently commenced its Positive Communication Strategy, which consists of web-based multilingual information that is to be promoted to select CALD communities.

The translated information covers four topics:
* Promoting wellbeing
* Stress and stress management
* Problem solving and goal setting
* A good night’s sleep

The first three topics have been translated into eight community languages: Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, German, Greek, Italian, Spanish and Vietnamese. The fourth topic is translated into Arabic, Chinese, Greek, Italian and Maltese.

DON’T START A NEW PROJECT UNTIL...
...you’ve checked the DHI Clearinghouse! You can use the Clearinghouse to find out about recent Australian research and projects on diversity health, saving yourself a lot of time and effort. See what research other organisations have done in your area and make valuable contacts with people doing similar projects.

On the home page, you can select 'Research & Projects' from the main menu, or just follow this this link: http://www.dhi.gov.au/clearinghouse/Research.htm

By choosing the Guided Search option, you can search for projects by subject, agency, or community using the browse buttons. Each listing will give you a brief description of the project and some contact details to find out more.

If your agency is conducting any research you would like us to include in the Clearinghouse, please contact us and help build a comprehensive picture of diversity health research in Australia.
