WHAT’S NEW…
We are constantly adding new information on diversity health to the Clearinghouse databases. Here are just a few new resources we have added this month:

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROJECT EVALUATION
In 2004, Australian Polish Community Services conducted a pilot support group for Polish women experiencing domestic violence. An evaluation report is available which includes a model of how such support groups might be offered to other CALD community groups. The report is available from the APCS website:
http://www.apcs.org.au/attachments/publications/DV_Support_Group_Evatuation_Report.pdf

BRAIN INJURY: WHAT IS IT AND HOW DOES IT HAPPEN?
This fact sheet has been produced by the Brain Injury Association of NSW and translated into 8 community languages: Arabic, Chinese, Croatian, Greek, Italian, Macedonian, Polish and Vietnamese. It can be downloaded from the Publications area of their website:
http://www.biansw.org.au

FASTING DURING RAMADAN
Diabetes Australia has made available on their website information for Muslims who have diabetes but wish to observe the fast during Ramadan. The fact sheet, called "Diabetes and Fasting for Muslims: A Resource for Health Professionals" is available here:

RESOURCES FROM THE DIVERSITY HEALTH INSTITUTE
These resources and publications have been produced by services within the DHI and can be downloaded from the Clearinghouse website.

NESB Carer Support Project: final project report
The NESB Carer Support Project is a Project of the Transcultural Mental Health Centre, funded by the Centre for Mental Health, as part of the NSW Caring for Carers Mental Health Program. It was established in June 2002, to provide support and information to carers of non-English speaking backgrounds (NESB), who look after a family member or friend with a mental health problem. This report outlines the implementation strategies employed for the project, the project outcomes and recommendations.

Auburn Hospital multilingual signs
Developed by the Service of Excellence in Diversity Health Care, these multilingual clinical signs were designed for use in Auburn Hospital in Sydney which services a substantial multicultural clientele. The signs were developed for various departments, including Emergency, Radiology, Maternity, Antenatal, Operating Theatre, Pre Admission Clinic, Physiotherapy, Social Work, Dietetics, and Birth Unit. The signs are transferable to other hospital or health care settings.

Progress report: The Sydney Basin Market Garden Project
This report highlights issues that confront people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CALDB) working in the horticultural industry across the Sydney Basin. The report presents the views of people who are working at the ‘grass roots’ community level with growers. It provides examples of the ongoing difficulties growers encounter and aims to broaden the understandings of service providers, and through action on the report's recommendations, improve the development and implementation of appropriate policy in both government and non-government agencies.

SOME FACTS ABOUT THE DHI CLEARINGHOUSE RESOURCES DATABASE
Our database of publications and resources in multicultural health now contains over 1000 items. The material ranges from fact sheets, reports, videos, CDs, journals, leaflets, to posters, signs and many other things. Around fifty percent is translated health information, and we have collected items in 68 languages. The other fifty percent of our resources is information about diversity health issues in English, such as project reports and journal articles.

You can limit your search to only our resources database by going to this page: http://www.dhi.gov.au/clearinghouse/Resources.htm. From here, you can enter any keyword or choose the guided search option to browse entries by subject, language, organisation, or type - you can also choose to only view those resources which can be immediately accessed via the web (online documents only).
