How to find multicultural health services in the DHI Clearinghouse
The Clearinghouse currently has 417 multicultural services from across Australia listed in its service database covering areas such as ageing, refugee health, gambling, drugs and alcohol, women’s health, men’s health, and much more.
Searching for services in the database is easy: go to http://www.dhi.gov.au/clearinghouse/Servicesadvanced.htm and use one or more of the search boxes to find what you are looking for.

New policy collection
In response to users’ requests, the DHI Clearinghouse has brought together policies and policy-related information about multicultural health across Australia. Just click on the browse topic policy.
Highlighted new resources Cultural competency in health: a guide for policy partnerships and participation
A guide developed by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) to assist policy makers and managers to design culturally competent policies at various levels of the Australian healthcare system. This paper describes programs designed to increase cultural competence and draws together available research on the influences and determinants of healthy living and environments among CALD communities. Practical strategies for enhancing cultural competency in the area of healthcare are also offered and examples of evaluated programs that aim to make a difference at a local level are provided.
Journey towards family harmony: family relationships in new and emerging communities
This new family education DVD produced by Blacktown Migrant Resource Centre in consultation with emerging communities, addresses family relationship issues in emerging Sudanese, Afghani and Tamil communities in western Sydney. The DVD depicts the challenges facing three families as they face the hurdles of resettlement and family conflict.
It contains valuable information on how Sudanese, Afghan and Tamil families can access existing services that understand their specific needs.
