Professor Chung-Tong Wu, BArch (Calif), MSc (Columbia), PhD (Calif), MPIA, RAIA
Deputy Vice Chancellor, Development and International, University of Sydney
Professor Chung-Tong Wu was appointed to the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor Development and International at the University of Western Sydney in April 2002.
Prior to this appointment, Professor Wu was the Dean of the Faculty of Built Environment and Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) at the University of New South Wales.
A specialist in regional development planning, Professor Wu has extensive research and professional involvement with international planning projects especially in China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan and Vietnam. In Australia, he has conducted research on regional development in NSW and Queensland.
Prior to joining UNSW, Professor Wu was Professor of Planning and Acting Dean of the Faculty of Built Environment and Engineering at the Queensland University of Technology. During 1994, he was the Head of School of Planning, Landscape Architecture and Surveying at QUT. He was previously Head of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Sydney where he also held concurrent appointments as the Director of Planning Research Centre and as the Founding Deputy Director of the Research Institute for Asia and the Pacific.
Before moving to Australia, Professor Wu taught at the University of Singapore and the University of Hawaii. He was also a Senior Fellow at the East West Center in Hawaii. He is on the Editorial Boards of a several international journals.
His professional memberships include the Planning Institute of Australia, the American Planning Association, the Australian and New Zealand Regional Science Association and the Royal Australian Institute of Architects. In 2001, he received the NAWIC Multiplex Award for Advancing and Furthering the Interest of Women in the Construction Industry.
