The Transcultural
Mental Health Centre established its own library collection in 1999.
In 2003, the Transcultural Mental Health Centre became part of the
Diversity Health Institute, and the role of the Library broadened
to support the research, clinical and educational activities of
all the units of the DHI.
The Diversity
Health Institute Library collection is located in two partner hospital
libraries. The mental health material remains in the Mental Health
Library at Cumberland Hospital, while a new multicultural health
collection is under development at the Auburn Hospital Library.
All resources
held in the Library are on the online catalogue available through
the above catalogue link. This catalogue is shared with other Libraries
in the former Western Sydney Area Health Service and Children's
Hospital at Westmead, so not all items on the catalogue are necessarily
located within the Diversity Health Institute or Transcultural Mental
Health Centre collections.
Membership of
the Library is free to staff of the DHI and Sydney West Area Health
Service. The Library also participates in resource-sharing with
other Australian Libraries, so other individuals, students and organisations
are encouraged to approach their own Library or public library to
access the DHI collection via interlibrary loan.
People intending
to visit the DHI Library collections personally are encouraged to
make an appointment with the DHI Librarian to ensure that the Library
will be staffed.
