The DHI Research Laboratory investigates the influences of genetics in the presentation and treatment of disease.

Although ethnicity is not associated with particular genetic definitions, some genetic variants are more common in some ethnic groups than others with implications for effective treatment of diseases. For example, pharmacological treatments that have been demonstrated to be effective for some ethnic groups can be ineffective or even dangerous for another.

The DHI Research Laboratory is currently undertaking a number of related projects:

  • Gene polymorphism in diabetes and insulin resistance abnormalities
  • Ethnicity factors in pharmacogenetics
  • Diabetes nutigenomics

Additionally, the DHI Laboratory is conducting pharmacogenetics testing for several drugs.
