Description
Chronic pain is a condition that affects 40% of the population. First and second generation migrants are over represented amongst the chronic pain population. Language difficulties mean that many members of culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities have reduced access to health information. They may also be less willing to access health services following development of pain, and cultural differences may increase difficulties in communicating with treating professionals. This project aims to develop a framework for understanding the expression of chronic pain within the Mandarin and Arabic-speaking communities, develop conceptually sound measures of chronic pain and validate and promote the use of these measures.
This project is a collaboration bewteen the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Pain Management Centre and the Diversity Health Institute Research Network.
