Mental Health Week 2008

The Transcultural Mental Health Centre NSW (TMHC) is hosting and participating in numerous activities for Mental Health Week 2008 to promote mental health awareness throughout NSW. Some of the TMHC's activities include:

Mental Health Week 2008 Official Launch

The official public launch of Mental Health Week 2008 will be held in Martin Place, Sydney. TMHC will have an information stall and be an active supporter of this event.

Coffs Harbour Community Fair

TMHC in collaboration with North Coast Area Health Service are hosting a Mental Health Information Day in the Coffs Harbour City Mall on World Mental Health Day, 10th October, 2008 to promote mental health awareness and support the theme 'Building Resilience - Participate 08'.

TMHC will be hosting a series of 30 minute workshops on wellbeing in four community languages, English, Dinka, Burmese and Punjabi. Further details about the workshops are as follows:

An exciting array of other activities are also planned for World Mental Health Day and will include:

  • Multicultural mental health information in languages other than English
  • Information stalls, musicians, circus street performers, artwork displays

AFL Clinics 

TMHC, in partnership with the Australian Football League, is disseminating information at NAB AFL Auskick clinics throughout the state to increase awareness on mental health issues in the lead up to Mental Health Week 2008.

NAB AFL Auskick is the Australian Football League's key introductory program for primary school-aged boys and girls and their families. For more information on NAB AFL Auskick visit: www.aflauskick.com.au.

Public Performance Playback Theatre

For young people aged 12 to 24 - with a focus on building resilience and diversity the multi talented actors of Playback Theatre take your stories and experiences and turn them into live theatre right in front of your eyes, using improvisation, movement drama and music.
