Clinical Consultation & Assessment Service

Service Structure

The staff employed in the Clinical Service includes a Team Leader, Intake Officers and Administration Officers. The Intake Officers are the first contact point and are responsible for the provision of information, advice, support and referrals to other services as appropriate.

Intake Officers allocate clients to the most appropriate sessional worker according to the nature of the problem, the intervention needed, and the client's language, culture, religion, gender.

Sessional workers

The TMHC currently has 132 sessional workers who speak a total of 53 community languages. 64.4% of sessional workers are female and 35.6% are male.

The majority of sessional workers have significant clinical experience and expertise in working cross-culturally and in a variety of health and welfare settings.

The range of clinical interventions provided by the sessional workers is:

  • consultation

  • assessment

  • short-term counselling

  • short-term therapy

  • psychoeducation

  • group intervention.

The clinical time spent with each client ranges from 4 to 12 hours and includes time spent on face-to-face consultations and clinical documentation time. Cases referred from rural and remote areas of NSW involve either telephone consultations or travel to the area for face-to-face contacts. The Clinical Service covers all costs related to travel time and clinical work in rural and remote NSW if a sessional worker is allocated a client in these areas.
